Sugden Audio, founded in 1967 by James Edward Sugden in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, UK, pioneered pure Class A solid-state amplification. Their first product, the A21 amplifier, was the world’s first commercially produced pure Class A transistor amplifier. In 1981, production moved to Heckmondwike under Tony Miller, who led the company for 40 years.
